Donation and Participation CTAs
The call-to-action (CTA) buttons on your campaign page are the most important elements for converting a visitor into a donor or participant. Their placement and visibility have a direct impact on your fundraising results.
The two main actions
"Make a Donation" button
The "Make a Donation" button directs the visitor to the donation flow. This flow lets the donor:
- Choose the donation amount
- Enter their payment information
- Confirm their contribution

The donation flow is designed to be simple and fast to minimize abandonment. The visitor can complete their donation in just a few clicks.
"Participate" button
The "Participate" button lets the visitor register for a challenge. By registering, the participant:
- Joins the selected challenge
- Gets their own personal fundraising page
- Can start logging their athletic activities
- Mobilizes their network to collect donations

Encourage your visitors to become participants rather than one-time donors. A participant who mobilizes their network generates, on average, significantly more donations than a single contribution.
Button placement
Action buttons are positioned strategically to maximize conversions:
- Visible position: buttons are placed at key locations on the page without the visitor needing to search
- Visual contrast: buttons use colors that stand out from the rest of the page
- Repetition: buttons appear at multiple points on the page to multiply click opportunities

Donor journey
When a visitor clicks "Make a Donation", they are guided through a multi-step process:
| Step | Description |
|---|---|
| Amount selection | Choose a preset amount or enter a custom amount |
| Information | Enter the donor's name and email address |
| Payment | Enter secure payment information |
| Confirmation | Summary and donation confirmation |
For a complete guide to the donation journey from the donor's perspective, see the participant documentation: Make a Donation.
Participant journey
When a visitor clicks "Participate", the challenge registration process begins:
- Login or signup: the visitor logs into their account or creates one
- Challenge selection: choose which challenge to join (if multiple are available)
- Confirmation: validate the challenge registration
- Access to the participant space: the participant accesses their personal dashboard
Optimizing your conversions
To maximize the number of donations and participations:
- Craft your button text: clear and direct wording like "Make a Donation" or "Join the Challenge" is more effective than vague phrasing
- Create a sense of urgency: mention the challenge end date or the remaining amount to raise
- Highlight the impact: clearly display what the donation enables (for example: "20 EUR = 1 school kit")
- Reduce friction: the path from button click to action completion should be as short as possible
Regularly verify that your action buttons work correctly. A button that leads to an error page can cost you potential donors.
Connection with other page elements
CTA buttons work in synergy with the other elements of your campaign page:
- Organization branding establishes trust
- The active challenges list presents the opportunities
- The sharing feature multiplies visibility
Together, these elements form a coherent journey that guides the visitor from discovery to action.
