Upload a GPX Route

A GPX (GPS Exchange Format) file lets you define the exact route of your race. Once imported, the route is displayed on an interactive map on the race detail page, giving participants a precise view of the itinerary.

Prepare your GPX file

Before uploading it to OuiRace, make sure your GPX file:

  • Is in .gpx format (standard XML for GPS data).
  • Contains a valid track or route.
  • Accurately represents the course that participants will follow.
Where to create a GPX file?

You can create or export a GPX file from tools such as:

  • Strava: export a route from the Route Builder.
  • Komoot: export a planned activity in GPX format.
  • GPX Studio (gpx.studio): a free online tool for creating routes.
  • Garmin Connect: export a course from your account.

Upload a GPX file

  1. Open your race from the organizer dashboard.
  2. Go to the "Formats" tab.
  3. Select the format you want to attach the route to.
  4. In the "GPX Route" section, click "Import a GPX file".
  5. Select your .gpx file from your computer.
  6. The route is automatically parsed and displayed on a preview map.

One route per format

Each race format has its own GPX route. If your event offers a 10K and a 21K, you need to upload two separate GPX files -- one for each format.

Route visualization

Once the GPX file is uploaded, the route appears:

  • In the dashboard: preview map in the format editor.
  • On the race page: interactive map visible to participants on the race detail page.

Participants can study the route before registering, identify technical sections, and estimate the difficulty.

Replace or delete a route

Replace a GPX file

To update the route of a format:

  1. Go to the relevant format.
  2. Click "Replace GPX file".
  3. Select the new file.
  4. The old route is automatically replaced.

Delete a route

To remove a route from a format, click the delete icon next to the GPX file. The map will disappear from the race detail page.

Verify your route

After uploading, always check the route on the preview map. A corrupted or incomplete GPX file may display a truncated or incorrect route.

Best practices

  • Simplify your routes: a GPX file with too many GPS points can be heavy. Most tools allow you to reduce the number of points while maintaining accuracy.
  • Test the course: if possible, travel the route with a GPS before the event to validate the trace.
  • Name your files clearly (e.g., trail-25k-route.gpx) so you can find them easily.
